The south coast towns of Herne Bay and Whitstable rose to prominence with the Victorian enthusiasm for seaside holidays and, at one time, each boasted its own quality newspaper, By the Great War, the Whitstable had been incorporated into the Herne Bay Press and its reporting from the "Home Front" line gives a unique insight into the conflict.
